Arthur Schopenhauer / The document inventory

Letters & fragments

Each inventory follows the numbering of an identified edition. “Complete” refers to that edition and document type; it does not claim to cover every surviving document by the philosopher.

The coverage labels distinguish fully indexed corpora from lists that remain partial.

Letters / 867 indexed entries

Deussen, Sämtliche Werke XIV–XVI: Der Briefwechsel, Gebhardt/Hübscher (1929, 1933, 1942), nos. 1–826 + 41 supplements

Partial inventory for this edition

867 epistolary units are identified: nos. 1–826 in volumes XIV–XV and 41 additions in XVI, including 205a separated from 205 by corrections. Incoming letters, outgoing letters and drafts appear together; not all are written by Schopenhauer. Numbers were checked against headings and apparatus; dates and addressees are not transcribed where Fraktur OCR is uncertain. Coverage remains partial regarding later editions and lost letters; this is not the numbering of every Hübscher edition.
