Confucius
Becoming human, together.
In a fragmented political world, Confucius makes learning, relationships and example a response to disorder. A good life is not invented alone: it is cultivated through the way we encounter other people.
How do we become someone other people can depend on?
Biography
Kong Qiu, known in the tradition as Kongzi — Master Kong — lives near the end of the Spring and Autumn period. The Latinised name Confucius will circulate in Europe much later. His life reaches us through later textual traditions: they portray a teacher and political adviser, but do not allow every anecdote to be treated as an established fact.
02 /Philosophy
Ren names a human quality developed through relationships: benevolence, attentiveness and the ability to avoid treating others as mere instruments. It is more than a generous feeling. It requires learning to perceive situations and respond to them appropriately.
