Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel / The document inventory

Letters & fragments

Each inventory follows the numbering of an identified edition. “Complete” refers to that edition and document type; it does not claim to cover every surviving document by the philosopher.

The coverage labels distinguish fully indexed corpora from lists that remain partial.

Letters / 274 indexed entries

Briefe von und an Hegel, edited by Karl Hegel (1887), numbered units 1–274

Partial inventory for this edition

The 274 numbered units of Karl Hegel’s 1887 edition are identified from its index and checked against the text. Direction is indicated; incoming letters are not attributed to Hegel. Some numbers, notably 194, 209 and 235, group extracts from travel letters: they remain editorial units rather than a count of every individual letter. Coverage of the modern corpus is partial, without automatic equivalence to Hoffmeister. Only unambiguously verified dates are added.

Fragments / 20 indexed entries

Hegels theologische Jugendschriften, Hermann Nohl (1907): I.1–5; Anhang A.1–13; Systemfragment sheets 34 and 47

Partial inventory for this edition

Eighteen numbered units verified in Nohl’s 1907 edition: five Folk Religion and Christianity fragments and thirteen Appendix A drafts, plus the two surviving sheets of the 1800 System Fragment, numbered 34 and 47 in the manuscript. Numbers belong to this edition or manuscript, not the Gesammelte Werke. Some Nohl units group several pieces; I.3 combines four. This is a partial manuscript inventory without conjectural dates or thematic titles.
