Seneca / The document inventory

Letters & fragments

Each inventory follows the numbering of an identified edition. “Complete” refers to that edition and document type; it does not claim to cover every surviving document by the philosopher.

The coverage labels distinguish fully indexed corpora from lists that remain partial.

Richard M. Gummere (1917–1925), Standard Ebooks: Letters 1–124

Complete inventory for this edition

All 124 surviving Moral Letters to Lucilius, checked against the complete table of contents of the Gummere edition. Descriptive headings are editorial, not titles supplied by Seneca; French, Spanish, German and Italian headings translate those editorial headings. Dates of individual letters are not securely established. Lost correspondence and the spurious exchange with Paul are outside this inventory.
