Marcus Aurelius / The document inventory

Letters & fragments

Each inventory follows the numbering of an identified edition. “Complete” refers to that edition and document type; it does not claim to cover every surviving document by the philosopher.

The coverage labels distinguish fully indexed corpora from lists that remain partial.

C. R. Haines (1919–1920), Fronto: correspondence with Marcus Aurelius, volumes I–II

Complete inventory for this edition

Letters to and from Marcus Aurelius identified in both volumes of Haines’s translation, including the five surviving openings and epistolary essays with explicit salutations. Entries give the volume and printed page, not an invented modern letter number. Dates retain the edition’s uncertainty marks. Links point to the exact observed heading in a fixed transcription revision. Independent declamations, letters to other recipients, imperial documents and later discoveries lie outside this edition-based inventory.
