Karl Marx / The document inventory

Letters & fragments

Each inventory follows the numbering of an identified edition. “Complete” refers to that edition and document type; it does not claim to cover every surviving document by the philosopher.

The coverage labels distinguish fully indexed corpora from lists that remain partial.

Letters / 548 indexed entries

Marxists Internet Archive — Marx’s outgoing and jointly authored letters in the four chronological correspondence indexes (consulted 2026-10-26)

Complete inventory for this edition

548 distinct letters by Marx or jointly authored with him, listed in the four consulted chronological indexes; every included link was checked. Two index errors were excluded: the 1835 school essay and a military article by Engels. Identifiers reproduce source paths, not MEGA numbers. Dates are not reconstructed from filenames. This inventory is complete for this verified digital selection, not for all letters preserved in MEGA or for incoming correspondence.

Fragments / 11 indexed entries

Thesen über Feuerbach, I–XI; Marxists Internet Archive, English translation of Marx’s 1845 notes

Complete inventory for this edition

All eleven notes are individually indexed; numbering and anchors were checked in the source. “Fragments” here means short notes, not eleven arbitrary excerpts. Marx’s original version must be distinguished from Engels’s 1888 wording. This does not inventory all of Marx’s notebooks and fragments.
