Begin with a person

Property and contract recognize someone as a bearer of rights. Ask what this formal standing achieves and what it leaves unaddressed.

02 /

Test the institutions

Read family, markets and state through their proposed contribution to freedom. Record poverty and exclusion where the promised recognition remains incomplete.

An idea to keep.

Evaluate institutions by the freedom they make possible and by the contradictions they leave unresolved.

Your turn to think.

  1. Which institution enables a freedom you exercise?
  2. Who is excluded from its benefits?
